Düsseldorf is a city in western Germany, the capital of the federal state of Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine-Westphalia), straddling the banks of the Rhine River.
It is the second-largest city in the state after Cologne, and the seventh-largest city in Germany.
Düsseldorf is divided by the Rhine River, with its Altstadt (Old Town) on the east bank and modern commercial areas on the west.
Visitors will find plenty of places to see around the city, the most popular of which are are the Rhine Tower, Schloss Benrath, Media Harbour, and Old Town Düsseldorf itself. Shopping streets abound, lined with high-end stores and traditional German shops selling food items and crafts.
Düsseldorf’s culture is felt throughout the entire city, with dozens of museums, cultural centers, more than a hundred art galleries, medieval period churches and palaces, a music hall and an opera house.
The Museum Kunst Palast displays one of the Rhineland’s best art collections, including sculptures, graphic arts, and photography. In the Altstadt can be found St. Lambertus Church and Schlossturm (Castle Tower), both dating back to the 13th century.
Düsseldorf has several parks and gardens, the heart of which is the 200-year-old Hofgarten (Court Garden). The park complex extends over an area of around 28 hectares, and is ideal for taking a breather between shopping trips on the nearby Königsallee and Schadowstrasse shopping streets.
Liveable and lovable, modern and multicultural, tradition-conscious and tolerant ~ Düsseldorf is diverse and has a lot to offer. Welcome to the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia.
