First Ladies beginning with Grace Coolidge hosted teas to raise money for its operations. Photographs of soldiers and sailors who ate and slept in the facility line the walls. Even today, the inn's Victorian/Chinese façade still features a Shanghai roof and Chinese Chippendale porch.
