The historic Lafayette Hotel, built in 1916, stands on fashionable St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans, La. Part of the Margi Gras parade route, the hotel is seven blocks from decadent Bourbon Street and overlooks Lafayette Square.
The hotel's eatery, Restaurant Anatole, serves contemporary spins on New Orleans cuisine, including steaks and Gulf seafood in an elegant setting overlooking St. Charles Avenue. The bar boasts over 160 fine wines from around the world. The four story Lafayette, one of the first buildings in the city to offer plumbing, retains many unique architectural elements such as French doors, wrought iron balconies, Italian marble floors, decorative moldings and 10 foot ceilings.
The designs spill over into the guestrooms, which also feature Old World architecture, French doors, four poster beds and English botanical prints. Wireless Internet access is offered in all rooms for a fee. Thick terry cloth bathrobes and French milled soaps are provided in all bathrooms. St. Charles Avenue's famous St. Charles Streetcar is available outside of the hotel and offers a tour of New Orleans' most popular sites including the French Quarter, the stately homes of the historic Garden District, Audubon Zoo and Loyola and Tulane Universities.
