The Splendide Royal is a small hotel occupying a 19th century building facing Villa Borghese park, 500 metres from the Spanish Steps.
The 68 guestrooms feature décor redolent of a 17th century villa, with Persian rugs, sculpted ceilings, crown mouldings and bathrooms of Carrara marble. The striped curtains and floral bedcovers in red, blue and golden yellow are inspired by colours worn by the Vatican's Swiss Guards. All rooms are equipped with wireless Internet (surcharge), satellite television, minibars, and remote lighting and drapery control. Bathrooms include bathrobes, slippers, makeup mirrors, scales, two sinks, and toiletries.
The building that houses the hotel was constructed as a Maronite convent in 1880; a small church and cloister lie within the complex. The reception area has a black and cream marble floor, an ornate coffered ceiling, gilt edged mirrors, antique paintings, and a glittering chandelier which was used in the ballroom scene of the 1963 film Il Gattopardo (The Leopard).
Mirabelle, the hotel's rooftop restaurant offers views of the Borghese Gardens and the city. White and lemon table linens and fresh flowers set the scene, and the room is candlelit at night.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily; reservations are necessary and jackets are required.
A buffet breakfast is served every morning in the Terrace la Limonaia dining room, which is also available for private dining. Health and fitness enthusiasts can work out in the gym on the fourth floor. The hotel houses three meeting rooms, which are equipped with audio visual facilities and can accommodate up to 50 people, and wireless Internet access is available in public areas (surcharge). Villa Borghese is across the street from the hotel. Bicycles are available for rent at Villa Borghese, and on special request they can be delivered to the hotel. Guests will find the Roman ruins of the Coliseum and the Forum within one kilometre.
Fiumicino Airport is 30 kilometres away, around 45 minutes by car. This hotel accepts small pets only.
