Button.CausesValidation Property

System.Web.UI.WebControls Namespace   Button Class

Sets or retrieves a value indicating whether validation is performed when the Button control is clicked.

Syntax

Inline <asp:button causesvalidation [ = true | false ] ... >
Script Button.CausesValidation [ = true | false ]

Property Value

This property accepts or returns only a boolean value: true if validation is performed when the button is clicked; otherwise, false. Default value is true.

Remarks

By default, page validation is performed when a Button control is clicked. Page validation determines whether the input controls associated with a validation control on the page all pass the validation rules specified by the validation control.

You can specify or determine whether validation is performed on both the client and the server when a button is clicked by using the CausesValidation property. To prevent validation from being performed, set the CausesValidation property to false.

This property is commonly used to prevent page validation from occurring when a Cancel or Reset button is clicked.

Example

<asp:button commandname = "update" runat = "server"
   text = "Update" />
<asp:button commandname = "cancel" runat = "server"
   text = "Cancel" causesvalidation=false />
